Transportation Issues In Funaab

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta has provided luxurious buses also known as MANCOT for the transportation of both students and staff of the school during the weekdays. Cabs and Buses (shuttle) are also allowed into the school for the effective conveyance of students to and from the school during the weekdays and weekends. Despite all this, the transportation system in FUNAAB is still a major source of concern for the students. Speaking to our correspondent, few Funaabites express their concerns and requests regarding the transportation issues in FUNAAB.
Lawal Simbiat, a 200L student from the department of Microbiology stated in a brief interview “Most times, the transportation system in FUNAAB hasn't been something to write home about. The struggles and hassles to get into a cab or a bus can be so gruesome. But there are times its easy and stress-free. Because of where I stay; Gate and how early I set out in the mornings, I can say it's pretty easy. But in the evenings after lectures, I just get fed up because I have to run after cabs. ”
Speaking on what could be done to correct these issues, she said “If the school can provide more mancots, I believe the troubles of our transportation will reduce greatly. Also more cabs and bus drivers should be allowed to work in the school route.”
Another 200L student; Ajayi Praise had this to say about the transportation system of the school “It's good and bad. It's good in the sense that the school provided mancots and made it really cheap for students. It's bad in the sense that the number of buses is not enough for the population of students in the school. On busy days, the hustle for transport is bad. I also think it would be better if the school provides shuttles that would take students within the school premises. I mean, the rate at which that Funaab sun shines, it's not easy walking from Jao3 to 1000 capacity lecture hall. I think the transportation system is more bad than good. ”
David Joseph, another concerned student of the school also spoke to our correspondent stating “Transportation is really poor because the number of students increases yearly but the transportation means remains unchanged. Let's look at the cheapest means of transportation; the mancot. There should be about 25 or more but only a few are working. And these few sometimes develops fault. There are also few bus stops. For instance, I am to drop at Cele bus stop, I would have to either drop at Oluwo or Isolu then start walking to my bus stop. Also, the road leading to the school's gate which is the campus road is bad and narrow. I have visited a few Federal schools and state schools and it's not so. And each time I get to my hostel, I always have body pains due to the bad roads. ”
However, Tomisin Ayibiowu, an 100L student of Accounting has an opinion contrary to the opinions above. Speaking to our correspondent, she expressed her love for FUNAAB stating clearly “The transportation system in FUNAAB is quite good. It's good in the sense that it helps students financially. It helps students save up. It's a cost effective method of transporting students. But I think the school should provide more mancot buses because there's always a long queue at the mancot stand. And even when the mancot eventually gets full, it always takes a long time before another bus comes to pick the rest of the students. But all in all, I think FUNAAB is the best. ”
Our correspondent also interviewed two other students who commended the transportation system in FUNAAB.
