FUNAABSU: DEPUTY SPEAKER SUSPENDED

"Hon Phillipines demanded #50,000 from me" -Com. Oyelere Ayobami

"I requested for the money to investigate matters" -Hon. Phillip Akanbi*

An unending tittle-tattle began at the student representative assembly plenary section on Wednesday over  the souvenir issue which has been lingering for quite some time. The student supreme ruling council was present at the sitting.

However, the director of welfare and business; Comr.Oyelere Ayo opened up the said scrupulous act by the House committee chairman on welfare and business, Hon. Phillip.

    "The House Committee
Chairman on Welfare and Business demanded from me the sum of #50,000" he revealed. He further said the money was requested by the deputy speaker to cover up the number of souvenirs produced.

With a confirmation by a WhatsApp conversation between both parties which was read out by an observer, Mr Balogun Abdulazeez. Contained in the chat is: "I don't want it to look like am billing you... I still need to settle my other members... #50,000 na chicken change from your office" via WhatsApp chat.

The DSP was quick to respond to the reason for his actions saying: "I did it intentionally to know if the welfare director has been embezzling." "I requested for the money to investigate matters" he responded.

Notwithstanding, a motion was moved by Hon. Sodunke Badmus to suspend the Deputy speaker with respect to that act. The motion was debated and after which the voting exercise took place. Out of 35 Honorables present, 15 voted in support while 6 voted against the motion. The Speaker of the house, Rt. Hon Lukman Afolabi declared the DSP suspended for two weeks.

Moreover, the observers reacted saying this will tarnish the image of the SRA while some argued that the DSP was right to have done that.
