The 26th Convocation Lecture (delivered by the Historian and Erudite Scholar, Prof. Toyin Falola), today, 21st Nov. 2018

Aside the unveiled lecture of today, today has also been an avenue to learn the fading Informal discipline of our Land. This disciplinary act was exhibited by the Convocation lecturer himself (Prof. Toyin Falola), as he left the podium, went to where the Obong of Calabar (the Chancellor of FUNAAB) was sitting and prostrated before him. This, he did before the lecture.

Before the lecture, the welcome address was taken by our famous Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako. On sighting the chairman (Prof. Anthony Asiwaju) of the occasion sitting at the valley side of the building (if I should put), the Vice Chancellor invited him to the Podium.

After the welcome address by the Vice Chancellor, the Opening remark was taken by the Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Anthony Asiwaju (the Asiwaju of Yewa land, Asiwaju of Imeko, Ajimula of Benin republic, an Historian, ...).

According to the Chairman, "History is the mother of all humanity; history is everything". The chairman also rendered appreciation to the Vice Chancellor for bringing two Historians (himself and the Convocation lecturer, Prof. Toyin Falola) under the same roof. He also appreciated the Vice Chancellor for imbibing the teaching of history in the University, adding that it's time to establish a Department of History in FUNAAB.

Next item on the program was lecture, and this was done after the citation of the Convocation lecturer.

The Convocation lecturer mounted the stage, ignoring his age, he gave honour to whom it is due. He prostrated before the Chancellor of the University (Obong of Calabar), saying, "a ki n duro ki Oba..." (meaning, we do not stand to greet the king). This, he did before delivering his lecture.

The topic for the lecture, he termed, "Food and us: Poverty, Policies and Politics" (For convenience of reading, I will only script down some sub or case studies in the topic).

He focused on humanity, saying we can aid Agriculture through skills.

He recapped occasions where Jesus fed those around him; God's people were fed with manner from heaven; also he revealed the theories of Karl Marx to iterate the importance of food.

He stated reasons for the importance of humanities.

He iterated what generations can do to solve the problem of Agriculture.

He iterated what the University can do.

Lastly he gave recommendations on the problems associated with Agriculture, food sustainability, ...

At the end of the lecture, he prayed for the students of FUNAAB.

The chairman returned and gave the closing remark.

Next was hospitality shown by the Vice Chancellor -- presentation of award and FUNAAB produce, both to the Convocation lecturer and the chairman of the occasion.
