THE ROLE OF PRESS CONFERENCE IN THE UNION’S DEVELOPMENT

THE ROLE OF PRESS CONFERENCE IN THE UNION’S DEVELOPMENT.

The major duty of any government is to inform its people on the state of affairs over time.
One main channel to communicate with the public is the press conference.

In FUNAAB student union (and even FUNAAB management) however, the case is different.

Over the years, the leaders of the people have deprived them of their major right; right to information on all matters concerning the union.

The ineffectiveness of the public relations officers, clerks and lack of proper orientation about governance by the president and the speakers have resulted into a wishy-washy government devoid of accountability, stewardship, proper documentation and student leaders relationship.

Recently, a press conference was organized by the public relations officer which in proper terms is defined as empty and purposeless.
A press conference without prior and proper notification of the stakeholders involved– the leaders, students, press groups (internal and external) is nothing but useless.

It is saddening enough that the process of communicating information before, during and after a major policy shift is till lacking in our union.

One thing that has made unionism thrive and interesting in other reputable schools is this platform  that gives the led an opportunity to be part of the decision makers and stakeholders in the government and the leaders to generate ideas and innovation through the vast knowledge of the populace.
This is one of the bane of leadership in the union.

It is extremely important for the leadership to study and learn about the importance of proper communication of  ideas, policy , strategies and information to the student through viable channels in which press conference becomes the indispensable.

Another thing that must be corrected is the notion of an ‘’annual press conference’’  by the union ( if there is any in times past).
Press conference must hold when ideas, policies and vital information that requires the presence of the stakeholders involved is to be passed across as it gives a room for proper questioning of the reasons involved.

Conclusively, the union leaders should know that their office is a starting point for the prospect in leadership; therefore, anything that will make their tenure efficient must be learnt  in proper manners and practiced timely.

Of course, the knowledge process of governance must be one major criteria to look for in electing those that will come into offices, if lacking, the union apparent development is unforeseeable.
